Abstract
The aim of this study is to estimation of the pathological factors affecting in Locoregional Tongue Cancer recurrence in Imam Reza Hospital of Tabriz in the years 2011-15.
Materials and Methods: This study was a descriptive study and was performed on all patients whose files were available in Imam Reza Hospital of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in 2011-15. The data collection methods by reviewing the records of patients. The checklist included demographic characteristics, pathological prognostic factors such as tumor size, LVI, PNI, ECE and having or not having an operating margin or LND, etc. were entered.
Results: In this study, the mean (standard deviation) age of the two groups of patients with history and no history of locoregional tongue cancer recurrence was 69.67 (±12.8) years and 59.39 (±17.0) years, respectively. The type of pathology in all of these individuals was SCC. Type of surgery in two groups of patients with history and no history locoregional tongue cancer recurrence was 6 cases (50.0%) and 15 cases (83.3%) LND+Hemiglossectomy, 3 cases (25.0%) and 2 cases (11.1%) Thylectomy and 9 cases (75.0%) and 16 cases (88.9%) Hemiglossectomy, respectively. The mean (SD) of tumor size in the two groups was 1.68 (±0.9) years and 2.19 (±0.7) cm, respectively. In two groups of patients with history and no history of locoregional tongue cancer recurrence, 3 cases (25.0%) and 1 case (5.6%) positive margin of operation, 3 cases (25.0%) and 1 case (5.6%) LVI, 2 cases (16.7%) and 2 cases (11.1%) PNI, 1 case (8.3%) and none (0.0%) ECE and 3 cases (25.0%) and 5 cases (27.8%) had LN. Among all the studied variables, none of them, including: gender, age, type of pathology, disease differentiation, involvement of the floor of the mouth, having dentures, type of surgery, type of drug and duration of chemotherapy, dose of radiation used in the tongue and neck, tumor size, positive margin of operation, LVI, PNI, ECE and LN involvement, no statistically significant difference was observed between the two groups of patients with and without history of locoregional tongue cancer recurrence (P-value> 0.05).
