Comparison of Turmeric and Betadine Solution Efficacy on Episiotomy Wound Healing and Pain Relief on Primipara Women's in Al –Zahra Maternity Hospital in Tabriz Medical Science University, 2009.

چکیده
Abstract: Background and Objectives: Episiotomy after cord cutting is the most common surgery in midwifery and need care. Today, the use of alternative and complementary methods in the treatment and care of wounds has a special place. Turmeric is the plants due to Curcumin properties such as antimicrobial compounds, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. This study has been designed and investigated on the effect of turmeric solution on episiotomy wound healing. Materials and Methods: In this double –blind clinical trial, 120 primipar women, has been referred to Al –Zahra maternity hospital in Tabriz randomly were selected consumer groups, turmeric solution and Povidone iodine solution (60 patients in each group). Both solution were used topically on episiotomy would. Pain assessment process was determined and compared in the first 24 hours after delivery and then the tenth day after delivery by visual analog scale (VAS). Analysis was performed by using chi square and T test Mann –Whitney test, SPSS16 by the software. Results: The results showed that turmeric solution group means wound healing in 24 hours after delivery was 4.75±0.99 and in Povidone iodine group 5.3±1.4 respectively. In turmeric group 62.1 percent and in betadine 30.4 percent in the tenth day after delivery was no pain. Mean of pain severity between the two groups after tenth day after delivery was showed statistical difference (p=0.001). Conclusion: Considering the results of this study, it seems that, turmeric solution as herbal medication, can be used for of episiotomy wound care. Because these compounds have anti –inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that effect on pain relief that it is related to wound healing process.
