Abstract
Abstract: Children’s growth is one of the important component of health affected by various environmental factors like delivery type. This study aimed at determining the relationship between delivery mode and children’s growth from birth to six months.
This study aimed at determining the relationship between delivery mode and children’s growth from birth to six months 2014-2015.
Methods and materials: in this prospective cohort study, the growth indicators were studied from birth to six months of age in 526 children, [272 normal deliveries (NVD) and 254 cesarean sections, emergency and elective (CS) ] who were only breastfed. Samplings method was available. The primary samples consisted of pregnant women referred for delivery to Yasuj and Gachsaran hospitals and health centers affiliated to university of medical sciences and health services of Yasuj, Iran. To assess and collected data using ASQ test for developmental domains at 4 and 6 months and using questionnaires, checklist and health record in several stages for collected growth indices data at birth, 2,4 and 6 months . data were analyzed through descriptive and interventional statistical methods SPSS-22.
Results: the results after analysis of covariance were used for adjusting on two variables of gestational age at birth and mother BMI, showed that the mean(±SD) growth indices of weight , head circumference, and height had no significant difference between two groups of children at birth and 2, 4, and 6 months (p>0.05) .
There were statiscially significant difference between the two groups of children in the domains of personal- social(p=0.02) and problem- solving (p+0.03) , in ASQ 4 months but in areas ASQ 6 months of age were not significant. The maximum score in problem solving domanin at 4 months 56.3(3.9) inc/s group were seen.
The results ASQ test at 4 months were showed the highest (SD) of the problem solving domain in children cesarean 56.3(3.9) and 55.4(7.2) in NVD group. Also, the results ASQ test at 6 months showed that children C/S group, the highest score in the fine motor with the mean(SD) 55.2(7.3) had earned.
Conclusion: to improve the growth and development of children due to lifestyle modification and upgrading of demographic- fertility indicators recommended and more research is needed in later life.
