Comparison the Viewpoint of Cancer Patient and their Family Members bout Posttraumatic growth among Cancer Patients referred to Tabriz Shahid Ghazi Tabatabaei Hospital, 2014
Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: There is little information about the objectivity of posttraumatic growth experienced by cancer patients. So, the aim of present study was to compare the viewpoint of cancer patient and their family caregivers regarding posttraumatic growth in cancer patients.
Materials and Methods: This descriptive comparative study was conducted in one referral medical center in east Azerbaijan province in northwest of Iran, 120 cancer patients and 120 of their primary family caregivers were participated with convenience sampling method. The posttraumatic growth inventory (PTGI) and perception about prognosis scale (PPS) was used to data collection. Data analysis was performed using SPSS statistical software.
Result: cancer patients and their family caregivers believed their patients have a good prognosis. The total score of PTGI was 60.72 for caregivers and 60.07 for patients that indicates moderatc level of growth. Only in appreciation of life statistical differences was exist between two groups.
Conclusions: cancer patient and their family caregivers have incorrect viewpoint about the patients prognosis and reported moderate level of growth in their patients. These finding showed that showed that posttraumatic growth among cancer patients is an objective phenomenon.
