The Effect of Continuity of Childbirth Care, on Childbirth Outcomes, in Patients referring to 29 Bahman Hospital, Tabriz, 2009.

Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Childbearing is a painful and insupportably process and, since other hand leading to the most beautiful event in life. Caring from mother in not complicate childbirths is midwife tasks. Midwife is just person that has expert in this field. Quality of maternity caring is one of the most effective factors in childbirth outcomes. In the interim, midwives continues care and presence in parturient bed side, has a high influence in decline the childbirth complications and interventions and cause to improve the childbirth outcomes. Material & Method: In this study 100 parturient women with indication for normal vaginal delivery that, referred to 29 Bahman Tabriz Hospital for normal delivery, participated in a quasi –experimental study. These persons randomly were cared in continuity of care group and conventional care of delivery room and their childbirth outcomes were recorded and analyzed. The questionnaire consists of three parts: demographic, maternity and childbirth outcomes. For analysis of results descriptive statistic, GLM, T test, U Man Whitney and Chi –square were used. Results: The findings showed that kind of delivery (p=0.37) and fifth minute Apgar score (p=0.75) are the same in both groups but length of first (p=0.01) and second stage in labor (p=0.005), perineal tears grade (p=0.001) and first minute Apgar score (p=0.03) neonate's are different in two groups. It means that in experimental group, labor length is shorter and perineal tear is fewer and first minute Apgar score is higher. Conclusion: The results showed that midwife's continues presence and continuity of care in parturient bed side can, by decline in labor length and perineal tear and elevate in first minute Apgar score, decrease childbirth complications and mother's fatigue. And in this manner, cause to mother and child health improvement.
