Abstract
Abstract: Purpose: Likelihood of success on breastfeeding in preterm infant mothers is lower than healthy and term infant mothers. The purpose of this study was evaluating the effect of Educational program on exclusive breastfeeding and preterm Infant growth index.
Methods: An experimental design was used with convince sample of 74 mothers and their infant who were born before 37 weeks of gestation. There were assign to intervention and control group. Both groups were follow up to 4 month after birth. Data collection instrument s include mother's exclusive breastfeeding practice and growth index questions. Descriptive statistics t test, chi –square were used to analyze the data.
Findings: Exclusive breastfeeding duration until 4 month in control group was 62±54 days. And in intervention group was 74±53 days. There wasn't different meaning p=0.1. Growth index in intervention group was enhanced and weight and head circumstance in >2500 gr were significant meaning p=0.01 and p=0.05 but there isn't significant difference meaning in height index p=0.4.
Conclusion: Physicians practice changing to decrease unnecessary use of formula feeding because of low birth weight can help the educated mothers and motivated those to increase continue breastfeeding.
