Determining the Effect of Educational Program of Diet and Physical Activity in Type 2 Diabetes Risk Factors in at Risk Girls in Public Junior High School, Tabriz, 2007-2008.
Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: The most epidemiologic studies of the world show the increasing outbreak of diabetes type 2 among children. Most reports indicate that type 2 diabetes is going to become a worldwide epidemic among children. The onset of disease is one of the important parameter which effects on its future. The onset of diabetes in childhood and adolescence indicates long period of morbidity and increase the occurrence of its side effects in youth. In more studies it is believed that diabetes type 2 is a preventable disease and could be prevented by suitable intervention in at risk persons. Thus recent decade's researcher's has been focused on the primary prevention of disease. Regarding to high risk lifestyle (sedentary lifestyle with unsuitable diet habits) which is one of the most important risk factors for diabetes type 2, is important problem in which affect our society, and high level statistics of fatness outbreak among children indicates this problem, so this research has been designed I order to achieve a practical solution for its correlation.
Material and Methods: This research is a semi experimental study. The sampling style is of objective type. 60 persons were selected from qualified girl students between the ages of 12-15 years old and were divided into two group, control and intervention group. By extracting blood sample twice in one week (for reliability of the test it has done twice), the serum levels of HDL, LDL, TG, FBS, BP and BMI were measured and recorded. Intervention group were on is caloric diet & physical activity for 4 month. At the end of forth month all above mentioned parameters in both group were measured again.
Results: In present research weight loss with mean 1.57 in control group and mean 4.03 in case group was significant. The results has gotten from U –man Whitney test (in comparison of case & control group) about the weight with p=0.01 and BMI with p=0.000 shows the high amount of significance. The inter group survey with Wilcoxon test showed significant decrease in BMI, FBS, TG and weight variables. Weight, FBS, BMI, from many articles and researches introduce as the greatest predictors for type 2 diabetes. The significant reduction in weight and BMI in comparison the case group with control group and also significant reduction in BMI, FBS, TG truly support the hypothesis of research that correction in diet and intake calories in the limitation of body requirement physical activity cause favorite changes in the course of reduction in probability of affecting by type 2 diabetes.
