Epidemiologic survey of suicide in East Azerbaijan province _ Iran during 2007-2017

Abstract
This study is designed and performed to explain the epidemiological aspects of suicide in East Azerbaijan province. The obtained data will be used in the development of suicide care and prevention strategies in the health system of the province. Materials and Methods: The trend of death-related suicides was retrospectively examined by age, gender, method of use and area of residence between 2007-2017. Suicide data were extracted from the mortality registration system of the East Azarbaijan Health Center. All suicides based on death certificates were collected from health centers, hospitals, forensics and cemeteries and were recorded in a computer program in each city. Results: In this study, 25-59 years old had the highest suicide rate and 60 years old and above had the lowest suicide rate. The highest rate of death due to suicide was reported in the age of 25-59 years. The highest suicide attempt was reported in housewives the lowest suicide attempt was in unemplpyed people. Females were more likely to commit suicide than males. According to the results obtained from people who attempted suicide, male gender had a significant relationship with mortality and male gender had a higher mortality rate. Also, the education of people who died was mid and high school. The most used metod of suicide attempt was poisoning, hanging and cold weopon. And the most used metod of complete suicide was hanging, poisoning and self-immolation.
