Lifestyle of Hospitalized Patients with Coronary Heart Disease in the Lavasani Hospital in Tehran.

Abstract
Abstract: Background: Coronary heart disease are the main cause of death in most countries of the world including Iran. A person's lifestyle has an important role on development of heart disease, and its adjustment is quite effective in controlling or reducing the complications of this disease, so that it can reduce up to 50% of premature mortality of disease. Objective: This research has been carried out to determine the lifestyle of hospitalized patients with coronary heart disease in Tehran. Method: This research is a cross –sectional. 370 patients hospitalized in the Lavasani Hospital, following their coronary disease were selected randomly as a sample group. Data gathering was performed through interviews and the tool used for this purpose was a questionnaire made up of two parts: the first part covered demographic data and the second part consisted of patients lifestyles including their food habits, physical activities and sports, smoking, stress level and ways to cope with it, sleep and rest patterns. Information thus obtained was analyzed by the SPSS software, and inferential as well as descriptive statistical methods (such as t test, Variance analysis test, and Pierson S correlation coefficient) were used to realized the research objective the patients' lifestyle were grouped in three categories, namely: weak, intermediate and good. Results: Research findings showed that the lifestyle of most cases under study (56%) were intermediate. As to the lifestyle based on food habits (53/1%) were intermediate and physical activities and sports (56/5%) were low active, of the patients stress level (53/6%) were intermediate, as far as smoking was concerned (67%) were good to their sleep and rest patterns (57/1%) were good. Also there was a significant relationship between some parts of the patients' lifestyle and such variable as age with food and smoking, sex with smoking & food habits & stress/ marriage conditions with food, stress & sleep/, job with smoking and activity/, their declared economic condition with activity & stress/, BMI and food/, high cholesterol with stress & food habits/, hypertension with stress/, diabetes and activity. Conclusion: According to research findings most dimensions of the lifestyle of the patients with coronary disease were intermediate, smoking was good. Due to their presence in carious social environments, nurses can play an effective role in primary and secondary prevention of coronary heart diseases by correcting the patients' lifestyle especially in the areas mentioned to promote the health level of the society, such role playing by nurses can be accomplished in the fields of education/ training, counseling, guidance and personal modeling.
