Abstract
Abstract: Background: The main aim of diabetes care in adolescents is to achieve optimal glycemic control, normal psychosocial development and support of the adolescent and family. In the other hand, optimal management of diabetes regimen requires problem solving skills and person's belief in his or her ability to manage the chronic disease are very important which is known self –efficacy concept. The results of studies about relation between metabolic condition, quality of life and self –efficacy in adolescents are different and controversial. So researcher decide to explore this study for assessment correlation among metabolic condition, quality of life and self –efficacy. Materials and Methods: This is a descriptive correlational study with convenience sampling of 48 adolescent referral to diabetes centers of Tabriz. In the first, metabolic condition (glycosylated hemoglobin), quality of life (view of adolescent and their mothers) and self –efficacy was measured and then correlation of these variables was assessed. Inventory using in this study were health related quality of life (SF-36), diabetes specific quality of life (DSQOL), quality of life from parents viewpoint (Peds QL) and self –efficacy (GSE). Data were analyzed using SPSS (ver.11). Results: The results of this study show that despite of, achievement of adolescents to more than 70% mean score of self –efficacy, majority of them 46.6% had poor metabolic control (HbA1c>11%) and 41.6% suffer from nervous complications. And then 46/5% hadn't glucometer or test –trap to control blood glucose at home and 66/7% had low socioeconomic status. There aren't significant correlation between metabolic condition with quality of life and self –efficacy. But correlation between self –efficacy with health related quality of life (r=0/5 p=0/000) and DSQOL (r=0/6 p=0/000) was significant. Correlation between sex with goals treatment of diabetes (t=-2/1 p=0/03), number of daily insulin injection with health related quality of life (F=3/6 p=0/03) quality of life (F=5/79 p=0/006) and DSQOL (F=4/7 p=0/01), mothers job status with DSQOL (F=3/3 p=0/04) were significant. Discussion and Conclusion: Considering the fact that majority of adolescent had poor metabolic control, knowledge of nurses from factors that can impact metabolic control and diabetic out comes can enable nurses to design effective programs that can promote quality of life. So nurses should use earlier intervention in those aspects of youth behavior that may impede optimal health outcomes.
