The Effect of Newborn Massage on Paternal Newborn Attachment- A Randomized Control Trial

Abstract: Introduction: Touch is one of important method of emotional Exchange. The first sensory system that is matured is tactility. And massage is the best touch. Massage contributes development mother- newborn bonding. If postpartum newborn was admitted, the mother- newborn interaction because mothers physical irritation, is affected. Father- newborn interaction can cover this deficiency and prevent occurred of abuse issues, so researcher did this study with the aim of finding relationship between massage and father- newborn bonding.
Method: This experimental study is a randomized controlled trial. Of the ۱۴۸ fathers refer to ۲۹ Brahman hospital, ۱۰۰ fathers participated in this study that were randomization in two group (۴۸ of them as control group and ۳۷of them as intervention group). The tools of study were demographic and father- newborn Bonding questionnaires.
Finding: There was significant difference in father- newborn Bonding scores and pleasure subscale intervention group compared to control group.
Conclusion: The massage has positive effect to father- newborn Bonding so it is hoped that the relevant decisions and facilitate the participation of fathers in the baby's bedside, their Bonding becomes more solid and stable.
