Abstract
Abstract: Background and objective Neonatal period is one of the most sensitive and most vulnerable stages of life that requires proper understanding and appropriate maternal care. To achieve optimal care of the baby, the mother needs to have good efficacy in the care of the infant. The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy of mothers in the care of infants hospitalized in Tabriz ۲۹ Brahman Hospital and its predictive factors. Methods: In this study cross-sectional study, the self-efficacy of ۲۰۸ mothers of term infants and preterm infants hospitalized a month in the Infant Ward or NICU has been investigated. Data were analyzed by using linear regression model. Results: the mean of maternal efficacy was ۱۴۴.۰۱ ± ۱۱.۹۵. The highest rate of maternal self-efficacy in infant care was related to changing diapers and breastfeeding, and the lowest was ability to Resuscitation and Bathing the baby. The results showed a significant association between maternal self-efficacy with variables of maternal age, maternal education, number of children and length of hospital stay (P< ۰.۰۵). Conclusion: In this study the mothers announced that they had difficulty in caring of the infants and they felt inability, so participation of the mothers during hospitalization period and offering educational courses by the nurses seem essential for increase of the mother’s capabilities for newborn care.
