To collect data family assessment device was used which evaluates the function of family in terms of problem solving, communication, roles , affective responsiveness , affective involvement, behavior control and overall functioning. Some characteristics of patients assessed by checklist.
Result: Couples in this study reported relatively proper family functioning in all aspects. There was a significant correlation between overall family functioning and the age of marriage (p=0/02, r=0/20) and the age of elder child (p=0/01, r= 0/21).
Conclusion: Although family functioning of cancer patients is relatively appropriate, more attention should be paid to counseling services for family members. Because family is the primary source of care and support for cancer patients. In general, considering the whole family as a client is necessary to provide a supportive family-centered nursing care to cancer patients.
