The Effect of Education on the Instructor's KAP in Nursing & Midwifery Faculty Consideration the Effective Behaviors in Clinical Training.
Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Learning and acquiring skill in clinical environment is one of the most perfect educational methods which has a direct relationship with clinical instructor characteristics. It seems that the application of teaching –learning process by effective and competent tutors can help students to use their abilities in a best way. With regard to the result of previous studies to determine the effective clinical behaviors, also the wonderful effect of instructors on improving students' learning outcomes, the current study was performed to survey the effect of education on the Instructors' KAP in Nursing & Midwifery Faculty considering the effective behaviors in clinical training.
Materials & Methods: This is Quasi experimental study in which 25 instructors of nursing and midwifery faculty investigated before and after the educational plan (two –days' workshop). Data were collected by means of a questionnaire consisting of four parts. Then the KAP before and two months after the participation in workshop were compared. Also, before the application of the workshop and two months after application it, the statement of practice were completed by the group of student who educated by their own tutors. Information is analyzed with SPSS (9) by distribution pure and percentage frequency, mean, standard deviation, T test, one way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, Mc -nemar test.
Results: The findings showed that the participation of the tutors in the education workshop has been effective in promoting of their knowledge and attitude. The mean scores of them significantly differed before and after the participation in workshop (p<0.001). Although from the viewpoints of tutors and students, participating in workshop has increased the mean scores of instructors' performance, the observed differences were not significantly (p=0.21, p=0.41) on the other hand, the difference between the students and their instructors perceptions, regarding the performance of tutors in implicating the effective clinical behaviors was significant (p<0.001).
Conclusion: The results demonstrated regarding the fact that education has been effective in promotion knowledge & Attitude of tutors about the effective clinical behaviors, unfortunately in relation to performance only in one category (evaluation) has been effective (p<0.01). It seems that preparing the appropriate contact in clinical environment for the application of these behaviors is necessary. Moreover, the findings will be of great value in devising a valid and reliable evaluation tool to assess the effectiveness of clinical teaching, staff performance and assigning the staff in clinical education. Also, result of this study can increase the motivation of clinical administrator to prepare arrangement for clinical educators to have regular clinical placements in order to update and refresh their clinical skills and knowledge.
