Evaluation the results of Stereotactic brain lesion biopsy with Leksell frames; A 10-year experience in Neurosurgery department of Tabriz Shohada hospital
Abstract
This study was aimed to evaluate the usefulness and safety of stereotactic biopsy in histological diagnosis of such lesions.
Materials & Methods:
Hospital Records for all patients with brain lesions who underwent stereotactic biopsy at Tabriz Shohada hospital between 1388 and 1398 were retrospectively reviewed.
Results:
A stereotactic biopsy for brain lesions was performed on 242 patients (Male to female ratio: 1.23 to 1) with a mean 48.1±15.6 age of years at the time of diagnosis. Most common clinical manifestations were headache, hemiparesia and seizure. 27.7% of lesions were located in parietal lobe and 19.8% were disseminated which were the most common affected brain lobes. Astrocytoma tumors and lymphoma were the most common brain lesion pathologies which accounts for 63% and 12 % respectively. Mortality rate was 1% and morbidity rate was 3.11% in our study.
