Leadership Style of Managers and Staff Nursing Job Satisfaction in Tabriz University of Medical Science Hospitals 2002.

Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: The large part of treatment and caring process of patient is performed by nursing staff .Therefore, study of staff nursing job satisfaction and related factor such as style of supervisory and leadership of managers is necessary. Recent study showed there is a powerful correlation between leadership style of managers, especially democratic and consultative style and staff nurse job satisfaction. The nurse's job satisfaction is one of the management and leadership effectiveness indicator in organization. The high rate of nursing staff job satisfaction indicates that organizations is being lead well .Job satisfaction is an essential factor in increasing personnel efficacy, productivity , organizational commitment and innovation and finally the quality of care of patient. Material –and Method: This study is a descriptive - correlational design. Data was collected with two standard questionnaire .Reliability of each questionnaire is tested by test - retest method. In this study, 400 nurses were participated and was conducted in Tabriz University of Medical Science Hospitals. Sum of point of each questionnaire was used as a rate of job satisfaction and leadership score. Results: Finding of this study showed that: 24% of managers apply authoritative style, 54% authoritarian, 19% consultative and 3% participative style of leadership. Other findings showed that, 72% of nursing staff were dissatisfied. Otherwise, there is significant relationship (r=0.65) between amount of job satisfaction and managers leadership score. Conclusion: Result of this study showed that: In the organizations which is managers participate personnel in decision making or make a consultative environment for personnel (arise leadership score), rate of job satisfaction was above. Therefore, we suggested to nursing managers participate personnel in: goal setting, decision making and make a consultative environment. This means that managers should change their management style from authoritative to participative (or consultative) style and thereby the staff can experience organizational commitment and higher job satisfaction. Therefore, we can increase the quality of care and patient (client) satisfaction.
