Abstract
Introduction Considering the importance of the comprehensive dental exam, identifying and determining the relevant and influential factors on this comprehensive exam is the first step in the evaluation and academic achievement of students. The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between the grade point average of the first two years and the score of the comprehensive basic sciences exam of Tabriz Dental School students in entrances 92 to 95. materials and methods: In this descriptive cross-sectional study, general students of Tabriz Dental School at the entrance of 1992-95 who had participated in the comprehensive basic sciences exam were selected. Sampling method was easy and accessible and was done by counting. In coordination with the head of education at the School of Dentistry, information about students, including the year of entry to the university, the year of participation in the comprehensive basic sciences exam, the scores of the comprehensive basic sciences exam and their first and second year grades, and the first time participating in the exam were extracted from their files and entered to the checklist. SPSS software version 24 was used for data analysis. The relationship between grade point average and overall score was examined through Pearson correlation. 314 students were surveyed, 57% of whom were female and 43% male. The average score of basic sciences was 16.05±1.27 and the average score of comprehensive science exam was 116.53±18.39. In each of the years studied from 92 to 95, there was a significant positive correlation between the grade point average and the score of the comprehensive basic sciences exam (p<001). In each of the studied years, there was a significant correlation (p<001) in single people (94.2%), but no significant relationship was observed in married people (5.8%). In each of the studied years, a significant positive correlation was observed between GPA and the score of the comprehensive basic sciences test in female (p <0.001) and male (p <0.001) students. Conclusion: In each of the studied years 92 to 95, there is a significant relationship between the grade point average of the first two years and the score of the comprehensive basic sciences exam of dental students.
