Self -care Educational Needs of the Patients with Kidney Transplantation, Urmia, 1993.

Abstract
Abstract: This research is a descriptive and analytical study which has been performed to investigate the self –care educational needs of the patients who have undergone kidney transplantation. This research consists of one goal and eight special objectives which are about educational needs for cognitive, effective and psychomotor domains. In this research, 100 kidney transplanted patients who refer to Urmia City to the out patients wards for further and follow up treatment, were studied. Sampling method was as purposive sampling and the data were collected through questionnaires and check list. The questionnaires and checklist consists of four parts: 1) Demographics. 2) Affective needs. 3) Cognitive needs. 4) Psychomotor needs. In order to achieve the research objectives, descriptive and inferential statistics have been used and results have been presented on 57 tables and 4 charts. The findings of this study in relation with affective needs for self –care showed that more than 92% of the patients felt that they needed education. These findings in relation with cognitive and psychomotor needs for self –care showed that the most patients (39%) had low level of educational needs and 29.6% medium level and 31.4% of high level educational needs. According to this study findings, some factors such as age, sex, educational level, marital status, occupation, place of residence had significant effects on the patients' educational needs. The patients who were in old ages, women, married people, house keepers, unskilled workers and rural residences needed more education than others. Factors of the transplantation period, history of being hospitalized after transplantation and period of hospitalization had no effect on the patients' educational needs. The researcher have recommended some points for application of the findings and further researches. It is hoped that this research can be instrumental for post-operative period of the kidney transplanted patients.
