The Effect of Education on Self–care Knowledge in Immobilized Patients Hospitalized in Orthopedic Wards Urmia, 1993.
Abstract
Abstract: This is a quasi -experimental research which was performed in order to investigate the effects of teaching o the level of immobilized patients self –care knowledge who were hospitalized in the orthopedic wards in one of the hospitals of Urmia city in 1993. The main goal of this research includes to determine the effect of teaching on the level of immobilized patients self –care knowledge who were hospitalized in the orthopedics wards in one of the Urmia city Hospitals and of this research consists of four special objectives: 1. To determine and compare the level of patients self –care knowledge who were hospitalized immobilized in the orthopedic wards for prevention of dermatology disorders. 2. To determine and compare the level of immobilized patients self –care knowledge who were hospitalized in the orthopedic wards for prevention of urinary disorders. 3. To determine and compare the level of immobilized patients self –care knowledge who were hospitalized in the orthopedic wards for prevention of digestive system disorders. 4. To determine and compare the level of immobilized patients self -care knowledge who were hospitalized in the orthopedic wards for prevention of muscular and skeletal disorders. In this research, 40 immobilized patients (who were hospitalized in the orthopedic wards and were under treatment by cast and traction) were the samples of study. The sampling method was simple sampling which was performed in September and October 1993. In this research the necessary information was gathered through questionnaires. The questionnaire was made in two parts: the first part includes 9 questions about demographic and the second part had 30 questions about the research purposes. Findings of this research has been indicated on 53 tables and 5 charts. For analysis of the gathered information, inferential statistics, even T test, x2 test and Pearson test have been used. The results of this research, x2 and Pearson statistical tests showed that effect of some variable such age, sex, occupation, education, diagnosis, course of immobility, and period of hospitalization have had no effect on the knowledge of the patients before and after teaching. Also the statistical even T test showed that (which regard to personal characteristics and the average grade differences between before and after teaching on the basis of age, sex education, occupation, diagnosis, course of immobility and period of hospitalization) the teaching has much effect on the self –care knowledge of the patients (with 95% confidentiality who were studied). So the thesis of this research is being confirmed. At the end, the researcher has presented recommendations on the basis of this research findings for application of findings and further research in the fields of nursing services management, nursing education, and the other health and therapeutically fields. The researcher has also presented recommendations for promotion of the orthopedic patient's health level.
