Abstract
Abstract: This research is analytical descriptive study which has been performed to determine the incidence and susceptible factors of lumbago among the employed nurses and the relationship of lumbago with their absent days. The research was performed in educational hospitals of Urmia city in 1993. When this research was being performed, number of the employed in the above mentioned hospitals were 200 persons and their educational qualification were higher than associate degree and they were working as full time in the hospitals. Among the said nurses 50 nurses were elected for this research on the basis of purposive. In this research the data collecting tool was questionnaire which was made in four parts. 1. Question for general specifications of the related persons. 2. Rate of incidence. 3. Factors which make the nurses susceptible to lumbago. And, 4. Questions about their absent from work due to lumbago. The collected data has been indicated on 54 tables and 4 charts. In order to determine the relationship between variables, the tests of chi square, fisher and Pearson coefficient of correlation were used. The results and findings of this research showed that the rate of lumbago incidence among the employed nurses in the educational hospital of Urmia city is high and approximately 1/4 of them are suffering from lumbago. The nurses who were suffering from lumbago were mostly 32-39 years old and most of them were females, married and had child (or children). The research showed that the main factors of the said nurse's lumbago is standing for long time and picking up heavy objects. The research results showed that the average of absence days of the nurses due to lumbago were 12.5 days in 1993. According to the statistical tests, the research results showed that there is no any relation between the nurses age and their absent from work not between their years of service and their absent. Thus, the research results showed that there is a relation between the nurses lumbago and their absent from work, and absence rate among the nurses who are suffering from herniated lumbar disk is higher than the other of forms of lumbago. At the end of the research, recommendation have been presented for application of findings as well as performing further researches in this respect. It is hoped that presenting the possible ways for decreasing this problem among the nurse and can promote the health level of nurses.
