Abstract
ackground: The phenomenon of aging in the world is increasing and the number of elderly people is increasing day by day. Therefore, paying attention to issues related to the health of the elderly and promoting their health is one of the health priorities of any society. Elderly health promotion behaviors are one of the variables affecting their health. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine health promotion behaviors and their relationship with self-worth and resilience among the elderly in Tabriz. Methodology: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 427 elderlies, aged over 60 years, living in Tabriz. The participants were selected using multistage random cluster sampling. Data collection instruments included a demographic questionnaire, the Health Promotion Activities of Older Adults Measure (HPAOAM), and the Contingencies of Self-Worth Scale (CSWS) and the Contingencies of Resilience (CD-RISC). The collected data were statistically analyzed using linear regression analysis in SPSS-15. Findings: The results showed that the mean age of the elderly participating in the study was 67.47 years. The results showed a moderate mean overall score of health promotion behaviors (93.25±15.39) and a low mean overall score of self-worth (79.30±10.29) of the participants and their average overall resilience score was about 26.05±66.7, which is above average. The regression analysis showed a significant relationship between health promotion behaviors and self-worth and Resilience among the elderly (Pvalue<0.05 ). Therefore, self-worth could predict about 3.7% of the variance of health promotion behaviors and Resilience could predict about 24.1% of the variance of health promotion behaviors in this group of people. Discussion and Conclusion: According to the obtained results and the direct relationship between self-worth and resilience with health promotion behaviors, it is necessary for health managers and policy makers to take appropriate measures to improve the level of self-worth and resilience in the elderly.
