Abstract
The aim of this study is to investigation of the health promoting life style in relation with pain and disability in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Materials and Methods: In this descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study. A total of 150 patients with knee osteoarthritis who referred to the physical medicine clinics of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in 2018. Patients were selected by non-random and available sampling. After completing the demographic information form, the health-promoting lifestyle was evaluated using the HPLPII questionnaire. Pain and functional disorders were assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) questionnaire, respectively. Data were analyzed using SPSS software version 16.The normality of the data was checked using the K.s test.Frequency (percentage) was used to describe qualitative data and mean (standard deviation) was used for quantitative data if normal. Pearson correlation test was used to analyze the two quantitative variables if normal and Spearman correlation test was used if it was not normal. The level of statistical significance was considered 0.05. Results: The mean (standard deviation) age of patients was 58.71 (±7.8) years were studied and most of the subjects in this study had a total score of lifestyle medium with of 89 cases (59.4%). After adjusting age and body mass index variables, between the component of responsibility for a health-promoting lifestyle and stiffness (WOMAC stiffness) (r = -0.288, P-value< 0.001) and total score (WOMAC total) (r = -0.176, P-value = 0.033) was inversely related and patient who have more responsibility for a health-promoting lifestyle have less joint stiffnes. Between the component of physical activity and stiffness (WOMAC stiffness) (r = -0.210, P-value = 0.010) was inversely related. The component of nutrition with pain (WOMAC pain) (r = - 0.291, P-value< 0.001) and total score (WOMAC total) (r = -0.171, P-value = 0.037) and Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) (r = -0.247, P-value = 0.002) had a significant relationship and patient who have fruit, dairy, vegetables, Cereals and protein food groups in their diet, experience less joint stiffness. Between total score of health-promoting lifestyle and stiffness (WOMAC stiffness) (r = -0.189, P-value = 0.022) was inversely related and Patients who had a better lifestyle, Their joint stiffnes is less ; While other scores of health-promoting lifestyle components had no significant relationship with scores of pain and disability components and Visual Analogue Scale scores with adjustment of age and body mass index variables (P-value> 0.05).
