Abstract
Abstract: This is an experimental study which was conducted to identify the effect of education the modes of AIDS transmission on nurse's knowledge about and attitude toward caring for patients with AIDS in hospitals affiliated to Ministry of Remedy, Hygiene and Medical Education of Tehran in 1993. In this research all practicing nurses (76) working in Medical and Surgical wards of hospitals affiliated to Ministry of Remedy, Hygiene and Medical Education of Tehran were chosen as subjects. To gather the data a three part questionnaire was developed. First part included questions which inquired demographic data, second part designed to survey the knowledge of subjects, and third part addressed the statements regarding subject's attitudes. The findings are presented in 42 tables. Further descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyses the data. Inferential statistic (chi –square, T pair, T student and McNimar) was employed to estimate the correlation between demographic characteristics in intervention and control group, and also to estimate the correlation between knowledge and attitude in elementary and final survey in control and intervention group. Correlations were also sought between demographic characteristics and knowledge, between demographic characteristics and attitude in intervention group. The achieved results showed there was not a significant difference in demographic characteristics of two groups surveyed. Also, the research revealed that there was not a significant correlation between knowledge and attitudes of subjects with personal characteristics in intervention group. Further the analyzed data showed with 95-99% confidentiality that education can increase subject's knowledge and change attitudes in a positive direction in intervention group, so the thesis of this research is confirmed. Otherwise the results revealed significant correlation between subject's knowledge and attitude in intervention group in elementary and final survey. At the end, the researcher has presented recommendations on the basis of this research findings for application of findings and further research in nursing service management, nursing education and other health therapeutic fields.
