Abstract
Abstract: This research is a quasi –experimental study, which has been performed in order to investigate the effect of education on cataract patient's knowledge about post-operative self –care in eye hospitals of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences and Health Services in 1994. It consists of one goal and four special objectives which are about:
Activity and physical Restrictions
Administration of topical eye drug
Protection of the eye
Post –operative complications and regular follow up program.
The sampling method was purposive sampling. Meanwhile sixty cataract patients were selected. The data were collected through questionnaires. The questionnaire was made in two parts: 1) Demographics 2) Knowledge of the subjects about post-operative self -care. In order to achieve the research objectives, descriptive and inferential statistics have been used. Results have been presented on 90 tables and 8 charts. The findings of this study showed with 99.5% confidentiality that education can increase the subject's knowledge. There was no significant correlation between age, education, residency business, and affected eye (unilaterality) duration of hospitalization, family history, and subject's knowledge before and after education. There was a significant correlation between sex and subject's knowledge about protection of operated eye before education and a significant correlation between visual acuity and subject's knowledge about activity and physical restrictions after education. Finally, this paper has presented recommendations on the basis of this research results for application of findings and further research in nursing education and other health therapeutics fields.
