Abstract
Abstract: Objective: The ways of applying the principles to prevention of blood contact [Compliance with universal precautions (ups)] among O –R personnel. Design: This research is a descriptive study. The method of data gathering using checklist (observation sheet) including 50 questions and 3 section: 1) characteristics of samples, 2) surgical procedures and availability of necessary barriers, 3) principles to prevention of pre-cutaneous and Mucocutaneous blood contacts (ups). Setting: The field of this study is one hospital dependent on Tabriz Medical Science University. Participants: 60 0f O –R personnel’s. The selected sampling method have been quite sampling from 97 research population. Results: Descriptive and inferential statistics have been used to achieve the research objectives and the results have been shown in 30 tables and 12 diagrams. Findings of this study about the ways of Appling the principles to prevention of pre-cutaneous blood contact show 54.9% of O –R personnel apply its principles “weak” and 45.1% “Well” way of applying the principles to prevention of Mucocutaneous blood contact show 51.7% of O –R personnel apply its principles “Weak” and 48.3% “Well” on the base of findings of this research the following factors are effective in applying the principles to prevention blood contact (ups): elective or emergency status of surgical procedure, work shift, function in surgery. The O –R personnel involving surgical resident or scrub nurses and those who work in an elective procedure or in a day shift apply the preciples effectively. Conclusion: On the base of findings of this study which have shown important weakness in applying of universal pre-cautions (ups) the researcher has recommended for Implicating findings for further researches in other wards and centers in our country and recommended for implication of universal pre-cautions (ups) in all of health care centers of country.
