Study of Frequency of true vertigo in patients with vertigo complaints
Abstract
Studies have shown that vertigo as a common complaint that can have debilitating and life-threatening causes, requires careful evaluation. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of true vertigo and overdiagnosis among patients admitted with the main complaint of vertigo in Imam Reza (AS) and Razi hospitals from April 2017 to the end of September 2017.
Methods: After approving the plan in the Research Council of the Department of Neurology and obtaining an ethical code from the Regional Committee on Research Ethics (Studies of Human Subjects), the researcher referred to the archives of Imam Reza (AS) Hospital and Razi Hospital, the case of 197 patients who complained The main vertigo were selected, selected and the information required for the study was collected using a pre-prepared data collection form, and the information was entered into SPSS software after categorization and appropriate statistical analysis and tests were performed. They were performed and in all statistical tests the statistical significance level was considered 0.05.
Results: In the present study, the case of 197 patients with vertigo with a mean age of 63.53 14 14.67 years and 46.7% of them were male was examined. 86.3% of patients were admitted with true vertigo. (P = 0.001) 51.8% was related to environmental causes and in 28.2% of patients was the cause of central vertigo. The most common symptom in peripheral vertigo is vertigo followed by nausea and vomiting and also in central vertigo the most common symptom was vertigo followed by imbalance.
