Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: A number of experiments that have been carried out to investigate the state of nursing care units in Iran shows that nursing practice is faced with many qualitative problems. Many professionals believes that the main reason behind low quality nursing practice in the lack of following standard nursing cares. At this time, the nursing process proved to be the most accepted practice by American nursing society and has been applied in many other developed countries. The purpose of this study was to study the effect of nursing process on the quality of intensive care unit of Imam Reza hospital in Mashhad. Method: The study is a case- control quasi- experimental, in which the effect of independent variable (nursing process) on the dependent variable (quality of ICU) by the help of data tool including check list and questionnaire has been studied. The experimental design consisted of 52 determined sick individuals. The individuals were selected by simple sampling method and divided into two similar number of control (traditional practice) and experimental groups. The data for both groups were obtained on the admission and discharge day and were analyzed by the test of independence, Mc- nemar and paired t- test. Results: There were significant differences between the groups (before and after nursing process) when the health care of individuals (p=0.00) and cornea sore (p=0.0215) is used as the criterion. On the other hand, the difference between the two groups for the respiratory infection (p=0.222), urinary infection (p=0.581), aspiration (p=1.000) and bedsore (p>0.05) were not significant. There were not found to be any case of deformity and injury in two groups. The author concluded that become of decreased ICU complications, it seems to be possible to substitute traditional nursing practice with nursing process in Iranian hospitals.
