The Survey of Psychological, Social, Economic Problems and Coping Mechanism of Families’ Children with Thalassemia at Children Education and Treatment Center in City of Tabriz, 1998.
Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Thalassemia is a chronic genetically disorder which similar other chronic diseases, creation psychological, social and Economic problems for patients and families. To consider important role of nurses in Health care team, understanding them of family problems and whom coping with problems can help them at holistic care.
Methods & Materials: This is a descriptive study. Data were gathered by a four-part questionnaire, consist of demographic characteristics, Statement regarding the psychological problems, social- economic problems and coping scale of Mc Cubin and Thompson. Descriptive statistics was used for data analysis. Results is shown in 43 Tables.
Results: The findings showed that the greatest psychical problem was concern of the child’s future in 84% of cases at high and very high level. The level of psychical problems was moderate in 58% of families. The greatest social problems was difficulty to home responsibilities in 54% of cases at high and high level. Most of families had social problems in mild level. Cost of travelling to treatment center and other medications was greatest economic problems in moderate level. From the coping strategies faith and reliance in God was always used by all families. From five groups of coping strategies (spiritual support, social support, reframing, Passive appraisal, mobilizing the family to acquire and accept help), coping strategy of spiritual support have been used “Most of time” by 54% of families. On the whole, 74% of families have been mostly used from coping mechanism.
Discussion: The findings showed that families of thalassemia children are exposure are exposure psychological, social and economic problems and for adjustment to this problems using numerous coping strategies. So results this study emphasis the necessity of team work to solution of family problems and support them to coping this problems.
