Evaluation of women presenting with postcoital bleeding by cytology and colposcopy
Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigation of women presenting with postcoital bleeding by cytology and colposcopy.
Materials and Methods: In this retrospective study, women who referred to the clinic of Al-Zahra and Taleghani Educational and Medical Center in Tabriz from the beginning of 2015 to the end of 2017 with a PCB complaint were evaluated. After identifying the entry and exit criteria for the study of patients' records, the patient's information including age, gravid, para, clinical examination results, cytological results, colposcopy results and pathology results of patients were extracted and recorded in special forms.
Results: Of the 359 patients studied, most patients were in the age group between 14 and 45 years and had a frequency of 80.8%. Pathologically, 21.7% of patients had normal pathology results. In addition, most patients (40.9%) had chronic service; that was followed by 9.7% of HPV and 5.8% of cervical polyps. The frequency of CIN I, CIN II and CIN III in our study was 5%, 2.2% and 1.9%, respectively. Most patients were multiparous with the frequency was 70.2% and nulliparous patients had frequency of 1.5%. Based on the results of clinical examination, in the present study, 60.4% of the patients had a gross lesion, and 73% of the patients had a gross lesion on colposcopy. The result of cytology in 44.6% of patients was abnormal.
