Abstract
Abstracts: Introduction: This fact that breast self-examination is easiest and least expensive method of early detection of breast cancer, only 15-40% practice it monthly. Studies document is spite of the fact that nurses are an important members of health-therapeutic tem and have sufficient knowledge related to breast self-examination, do not practice it regularly. Because health behaviors usually result from health beliefs, so cognition this beliefs related to breast self-examinations essential to design program for promote this activity. Method & Maternal: This survey is a descriptive study. That accomplished with this purpose “identify nurses” health beliefs related to breast self-examination in therapeutic centers of Tabriz. The data collection tool was a questionnaire, developed by using champion and Scott’s questionnaire and existed information at books and articles, with 59 question in all, about individual characteristics and variables of health belief model (perceived susceptibility, seriousness, benefits, barriers and confidence in nurses) in 6 parts. The measurement criteria was 5 point Likert scale. Data analyzed with descriptive and inferential statistic. Results: Data show that the most (90%) nurses received informations about breast cancer and breast self-examination, and the most (70.2%) nurses had practiced it, and frequency of breast self- examination in majority (39%) of nurses, was very 2 months and more. Level of perceived susceptibility, in most nurses (58.1%) was middle, level of perceived seriousness in most nurses (57.6%) was well, level pf perceived benefits in most nurses (81%) was well, level of perceived barriers, in most nurses (52.9%) was weak, and level of perceived confidence in most nurses (5704%) was middle too. Also, there was significant relationships between some nurse’s characteristics and variables of health belief model (p<0.05). Discussion & Conclusion: Regarding the main aim of survey because. Level of perceived susceptibility and confidence in most nurses were middle, so results of this survey can help to nursing educational and nursing managers to design appropriate educational programs for reinforcing positive and modify weak health beliefs. With teaching of breast self-examination in theoretical and practical manager, they can promote this self-care activity and decreased mortality of breast cancer ultimately.
