Comparison of solubility rate of CEM (Calcium Enriched Mixture) Cement in acidic and neutral environment
Abstract
Introduction: Solubility of root filling materials is heavily influenced by the environment they are in contact with. This study compared the solubility of CEM cement in an acidic and natural environment.
Materials and methods: Forty metal rings were prepared, filled with CEM cement and randomly divided into two groups. The samples in groups 1 and 2 were set in synthetic tissue fluid water with pH values of 7.4 and 4.4, respectively and then were transferred to beakers containing distilled water with pH values of 7.4 and 4.4. Solubility of CEM cement samples were calculated at the 2 experimental intervals. Data was analyzed with independent t test.
Results: CEM cement solubility in acidic environment was significantly higher than natural environment after 7 and 28 days (P=0.001).
Conclusion: The solubility of CEM cement in neutral and acidic environment increases over time, which is more in the acidic group.
