Relationship between Perinatal Mortality Rates with Receiving Care at Tow Maternity Teaching Hospitals, Tabriz, 1999.
Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: In many of countries the perinatal mortality rate is considered as one main problem which is related to risk factors in every region (according to Ricardo’s). Regarding to statistics of perinatal mortality rate in Iran (20 to 30 per thousands), investigator decide to survey relationship between perinatal mortality rate with amount of received care and time of beginning in during pregnancy at Taleghani and Alzahra maternal and midwifery center.
Method & Maternal: This study is a descriptive survey on 1173 pregnant women referred to educational and medical center of Taleghani and Alzahra for receiving labor services in 1999. Data collection instrument including interview sheet, observation, file assessment, healthy card and referral maternity form. Rate of received care was studied with variables such as beginning time and referral number times with prenatal mortality rate (including mortality before, during and after birth). Descriptive statistics (i.e frequency, mean, standard error) and analytic statistics (x^2 test and t-test) were used.
Results: The results has showed that PMR was 6.8% (before labor mortality equal to 3.8%, during labor 1.1 and after labor 1.7%).
Also, significant differences were found between number received care and before labor, mortality (Pv=0.001) during labor mortality (Pv=0.003) and after birth (Pv=0.002). But there was no significant difference amongst beginning time of care receiving and before, during and after birth mortality.
Discussion & Conclusion: In summary, the findings of this study has proved some of its hypotheses. On the other hand, there was significant correlation between perinatal mortality rate and number times of maternity care. In this survey there was no significant difference between beginning time of received care with perinatal mortality rate (PMR). Finally suggestion are presented based upon the results of this study for other investigations.
