The Survey of Psychosocial Problems in Leper’s Resident at Leprosarium (Bababaghi, Tabriz 2000).
Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Leprosy is one of the home abolishing disorders which is surrounding deprived and afflicted persons. Many centuries is that this illness cause to fear and isolation patients. In spite of little number suffering from leprosy in total population, but the important aspect is impression to different physical, psychological, social and economic dimensions. Leprosy has long- term effects on personal and social life patients, family and community. In this regard WHO has presented it as one healthy problem for its psychosocial aspect Lepers need to psychosocial care especially, in addition to physical attention. Also, they would helped for return to community reached by recognition psychosocial problems. Therefore every person would help in her or his ability to this problem with a positive view.
Method & Material: This is a descriptive study for recognition psychosocial problems amongst lepers. Data collecting instrument was one questionnaire. Setting consists of all lepers resident at Bababaghi leprosarium non-randomized or convenience sampling to recruit of 190 patients was used. To analyzing data investigator has used x^2 test and cho prop efficiency correlation.
Results: Results of this study did not show significant difference with sex but in family relationship, divorce was more in women than men. The problems in occupation dimension was further amongst men. The effect of leprosy type onto psychosocial problems was same but in relation to psychological problems, disinclination to friends and relative was seen more often in lepromatoso leprosy. Disability level had not effect on family relationships, but job condition social interactions and psychical aspect had affection. With increasing disability amount, problem is increasing too.
Discussion: Results showed that forming disability in hands, feet and abominable countenance has cause to fear of lepers, isolation and rejection them. Negative social reaction is due to knowledge deficit about leprosy. However it is necessary talking or discussing about causes and treatment of disease and giving sufficient information to people. Therefore changing in perception about disease and acceptance it such as other illness would be achieved.
