Evaluation of the effects of herbal medicine (Mixture) on Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in women and girls with PCOS sign and symptom
Abstract
The aim of current study is to evaluate the effect of mixture of different herbal medicine on PCOS treatment.
Methods: In this randomized clinical trial, 68 women with PCOS were assigned to groups receiving OCP daily for three menstrual cycles with or without herbal mixture 700 mg daily for three months. Herbal mixture included Cinnamon (150 mg), Ginger (200 mg), Orange peel (100 mg) and Pennyroyal (250 mg). before and three and six months after intervention, clinical symptoms, sonographic and laboratory findings were evaluated between groups.
Results: In both treatment group, serial changes of anthropometric and sonographic findings, sex hormones and metabolic findings were significantly improved but only serial changes of LKF, FSH and estradiol in mixture group was significantly higher than OCP group. Hirthutism, acne, oligomenorrhea and amenorrhea rate were improved in both groups, but the differences between groups were not significant. Side effects were seen in 11.8% of mixture group and 29.4% in OCP group which was not significant. Treatment tolerance in mixture group was higher than OCP group. Patients in mixture group had more satisfaction compared to OCP group.
