Evaluation of Indications and Results of Ahmed Glaucoma Valve Implantation
Abstract
Glaucoma is the most common disease leading to irreversible blindness worldwide, and because it is often asymptomatic until advanced stages, its diagnosis is delayed.
Fortunately, there are various treatments such as anti-glaucoma drugs, laser therapy and surgery to control and treat this disease, but unfortunately in some cases glaucoma is resistant to these treatments.therefore we are going to study Ahmad glaucoma implantation as new method.
Materials and Methods:
By examining the medical records of patients who referred to Tabriz Nikookari Ophthalmology Hospital from 2007 to 2016, first we separated those who had referred due to glaucoma, and then selected those who had been treated with a Ahmad glaucoma valve.
Results:
In this study, 161 patients were studied. Of these 161 patients, 187 eyes were examined. Of these 187 eyes, 88 eyes are related to the right eye and 99 eyes are related to the left eye. In this study, the average age of the people is 42.63 ± 27.59. 22.9% of patients had complications after surgery. In this study, 37.2% of patients had a history of surgery due to glaucoma. In 47.05% of patients, disease was in the right eye and the rest in the left eye. In this study, congenital glaucoma and primary open-angle glaucoma patients who treated with Ahmad shunt were the most common.
