Abstract
Abstract: Introduction: Hyperbilirubinemia that is found at 60 percent of term infants in the first few days of life is a common occurrence in the newborn period. Phototherapy is the most common method for treating it. Hospitalization of newborn follows numerous problems for example the separation of newborn from mother. Home phototherapy is known as an effective and safe method, for treating in most countries of the world, but in Iran there is no research about the safty of this treatment method therefore researcher try to study compare the effects of phototherapy in the rate of decrease of bilirubin, cost, complication and duration of it.
Methods and Materials: The evaluation is Quasi- experimental study. Subjects is selected by sampling of easy. The subjects are selected; 117 newborns as control groups and 117 newborns as case group’s newborns who have the characteristics of research units are enrolled in this study. These information collected by check list of Daily observation. The responsible nurse collected information at hospital and home visit. Collected information is analyzed by distribution pure and percentage frequency, mean, standard deviation, x^2 test, t test, repeated- measures analysis.
Result: The results of this study demonstrated that between two groups there is no difference regarding reduced bilirubin. Treatment complaints in home phototherapy were reduced in comparison with hospital phototherapy. The difference was significant. In addition the cost of therapy in home was more reduced than in comparison with hospital, but duration of phototherapy in experimental group was longer than from control group.
Discussion: Results of this study demonstrated that home phototherapy for term, healthy infants with motivated parents is an effective alternative to hospital based treatment.
