Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is the second most common neurodegenerative disease and a type of age-related disorder. Peripheral neuropathy is one of the complications of the disease, while it has been shown that treatments like levodopa increase the incidence of neuropathy. Therefore, we aimed to investigate the association of neuropathy in idiopathic Parkinson's patients and its relation with the duration of levodopa intake. Materials and Methods: In this method, 30 healthy subjects (without Parkinson's disease as control group), 30 idiopathic Parkinson's patients (no levodopa intake or less than 2 years of use) were included in the case group without levodopa and 30 A person with Parkinson's disease who took levodopa for at least 2 years was studied as the levodopa group. Patients were subjected to electrodiagnostic tests based on complaints and clinical symptoms such as pain, paresthesia, limb weakness, and decreased DTR. Finally, according to electrodiagnostic criteria (decreasing the rate of empyllide and NCV), the prevalence of neuropathy was determined and compared in three groups. Finally, all of the findings from EMG-NCV in patients with other information including demographic information, the findings of the disease, entered into the SPSS version 20 software and finally analyzed the data. Results: In this study, the majority of patients were male and patients were living in the seventh decade. Tremor was a symptom of mold in all patients, and other common symptoms that were seen in the majority of patients were bradycardia and bradykinesie. It was found that the incidence of neuropathy is directly associated with the duration of levodopa in Parkinson's patients. As the duration of more than 5 years of levodopa was increased, the incidence of this complication was more pronounced. It was also observed that patients with neuropathy had a higher mean age than those without this complication.
