Abstract
Abstract: Background and Aims The degree of ossification of the midpalatal suture is an important factor in the selection of treatment procedure, especially in young individuals. Considering the discrepancies in the results of studies on the exact time of the closure of this suture. Among all the techniques proposed to determine skeletal therapies in orthodontics, the CVMS method is most compatible with the jaw growth pattern, this method is defined based on the shape of the cervical vertebrae, which can be evaluated in the patients cephalograms. Methods and materials In this descriptive-analytical study, the CBCT images of the maxilla in 21 Iranian subjects (12 males, 9 females) with an age range of 7 to 23 years were evaluated. The horizontal line of the image analysis software was used on the sagittal plane to position the palate horizontally in order to evaluate the morphology and maturation stages of the suture. The cvms cephalograms were examined in the Baccetti method. Data were analyzed with descriptive statistical methods and also Independent Chi-squared test using SPSS 17. Results There were no significant differences were seen between closure steps of midpalatal suture and CVMS method. Conclusion There were no significant differences were seen between closure steps of midpalatal suture and CVMS method.
