Evaluation of jaw bone density according to edentulous length of opposite jaw based on age, gender and jaw type

Introduction and goal:
Bone density is important in implant insertion and affects the success rate of implant treatment. CBCT radiography is used before implant treatment to determine jaw bone mineral density. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the jaw bone mineral density using CBCT.
Material and methods:
In this descriptive-analytical study, 96 CBCT images were selected. In cross sectional views the mean values of jaw density were calculated by HU measurements. Eventually data were statically analyzed in SPSS 17.
Findings:
Due to the effect of gender on density, significant differences were noted between males and females (p-value= 0.008) and the age of 30-40 years (p-value= 0.001). Highest density was found in women aged 30-40 years.
Conclusion:
Based on the findings of the present study, the jaw density was higher in women than men. Subsequently, the analysis of sex differences in the age of 30-40 years may be an accurate method for clinical studies of bone density. However other age groups didn’t show significant differences. Further research is needed to clarify jaw density to achieve the best outcome.
