Geographical distribution of intoxication cases in group of 10 districts of Tabriz metropolis city during the years of 2018-19
Abstract
Introduction: The toxin is a substance that can cause damage or disruption in the body through chemical function, and through different routes enter the body such as oral, inhalation, skin and injection, and cause local and systemic effects. Intoxication is a medical emergence. Also, it is the most common cause of hospitalization and the second-factor leading cause of death in patients hospitalized in Iran.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the geographical distribution of drug intoxication cases in ten metropolitan areas of Tabriz during the years 1397-98.
Methods: In the present descriptive study, data was collected and was performed as an available sampling method on 454 patients sampled due to intoxication in Sina Hospital of Tabriz during the 1997-1998. For this reason questionnaire forms that included demographic and intoxication characteristic information were prepared.
The collected data was analyzed by using SPSS and through descriptive (frequency, mean and standard deviation), statistics.
Results: The vast majority of the patients were male, married, had a bachelor's degree, and they lived in a part of the city named four district. Most patients claimed that their intoxicating was occurred due to suicide. Also, the ratio of their income is almost the same as their living expenses.
Conclusion: In Tabriz metropolis, between 1997 and 1998, the majority observed poisoning were due to benzodiazepines.
Also the results of present study showed that the higher incidences of intentional and unintentional intoxication leading to morbidity or mortality were considerable among young patients. Therefore, we poropose that this problem can be considered as a challenge.
