The Effect of Basic Life Support Education on Knowledge and Practice of High School Students in the Ninth Grade in Tabriz - A Semi-Experimental Study
Abstract
Due to the need for public education on cardiopulmonary resuscitation and the existence of appropriate educational conditions and facilities in schools and the high mental capacity of students to learn and the possibility of transmitting the information learned to the family and society. We decided to measure the awareness of students in the cities of Tabriz and the cities of Osko and Sahand in order to be aware of the impact of education by reviewing the amount of information before and after the education of public awareness.
Materials and Methods:
The study was semi-experimental and pre- and post-intervention, and the study population consisted of all ninth grade students of the first year of high school in Tabriz and the cities of Osko and Sahand the years of 2018-2019. In order to study employees of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences in order to teach how to teach content to students in theoretical and practical classes had a one-month training course. The course's teaching materials included 1_BLS based on AHA2015 guideline and 2_airways for opening the airway in the field of external body aspiration, including Heimlich,Back blows and Chest thrust. During the 3 months, the students were trained, and after completing the class and filling out the awareness questionnaire, the students were evaluated based on their work with the client, which included three skills: chest compression, airway opening, and Himmelich maneuver
Results:
In this study, 12068 students were studied and BSL was taught to these students in one course. The average age of the subjects was14.93± 3.03 years. 69.6% were female students and 30.4% were male students. Only 3.3 percent of students had already received a BSL. The average level of awareness of students before education was 2.54±1.04 and after education was 4.68± 0.59.
