Abstract
The aim of present study was to evaluate relation of ABO blood groups with ST segment resolution following fibrinolysis in patients with STEMI.Methods & Materials:In a descriptive analytical study, 303 patients with STEMI whom referred to Shahid Madani Hospital Educational Medical Center of Tabriz University of Medical Sciences and they received reteplase were included the study and evaluated. ST segment changes were recorded before and 90 min after fibrinolysis administration. Reduction of 50% or more of the sum of ST segment elevation in 12 leads electrocardiogram was assumed as an appropriate response to fibrinolysis. ST segment changes and blood group of patients were evaluated.Results:102 patients (33.7%) had A blood group, 88 patients (29.0%) O, 85 patients (28.1%) B, and 28 patients (9.2%) had AB blood group. 119 patients (39.3%) had no appropriate response to fibrinolysis (ST changes reduction below 50%) and 184 patients (60.7%) had appropriate response to fibrinolysis (ST changes reduction more than 50%). Frequency of appropriate response to fibrinolysis in patients with type O blood group was statistically lower than other blood group types (P=0.001).
