Relationship between Calprotectin and Fatty Liver in obese Children

Abstract
Obesity has been increasing alarmingly in most human societies in recent decades and children and adolescents have not been excluded from this phenomenon. Studies have shown that there is an inflammatory process in the adipose tissue of obese children. Moreover, Calprotectin is an inflammatory factor of the gastrointestinal tract and increasing in inflammatory bowel diseases. With regard to the obvious association between Calprotectin and inflammatory bowel disease, we were aimed to measuring the amount of fecal Calprotectin in children with fatty liver and determining the association between this disease and gastrointestinal inflammatory factors.Materials and Methods: all of Study population were obese children that referred to Gastroenterology and endocrinology Clinic. All obese children between 6 and 16 years old with BMI> 95th or overweight children≥ 85th ≤95th if had One of the risk factors: impaired carbohydrate metabolism(NAFLD/NASH), dyslipidemia (high cholesterol, high triglyceride) and family history of NAFLD / NASH After measurements for weight and height of all patients and the calculation of their BMI, according to routine examination of obese children, fasting blood glucose, insulin, triglycerides, cholesterol, liver enzymes, and stool samples from all children were obtained. Also Liver ultrasound was requested in patients with enhanced liver enzymes Results: The mean age of patients was 119.87±29.03 months. The mean BMI of patients was 28.34±3.88 kg / m2. There was a significant statistical relationship between weight and triglyceride level. The level of Calprotectin with the level of cholesterol showed a significant correlation; however, correlation between calprotectin levels and triglyceride, SGOT, and SGPT was not significant. Different grades of fatty liver had significant correlation with weight, SGOT, and SGPT levels, but different grades of fatty liver did not show any significant correlation with Calprotectin. . There was a significant correlation between Calprotectin levels above 50 mcg/g and fatty liver. frequency of fatty liver in males was more than females.
