The effect of diabetic pationts counseling with pharmacists on the level of their knowledge and selfcare
Abstract
Diabete is the most common glandular disease in the world. Diabete is not just a disease, it is a series of metabolic diseases which is caused by impaired insulin secretion or function of the insulin or both and is characterized by elevated blood sugar. Diabete is a growing public health concern, most of the importance of diabete is due to its high prevalence and the numerous complications that follow. Today, diabete is one of the most important health, social and economic problem of the world.
Aim.
The effect of diabetic patients counseling with pharmacists on the level of their knowledge and selfcare
Experimental:
This is a cross-sectional study in which pharmacies in Tabriz with more diabetic patients were selected and 300 patients who had a history of diabete and referred to these pharmacies were randomized. During this study, patients were given adequate training on how to use the drugs correctly and their side effects, the symptoms of severe hyperglycemia, how to deal with severe hyperglycemia, the impact of diet regulation, and the role of physical activity.
Results :
In this study the different aspects of self-care and its relationship with drug counseling were investigated in 300 patients with showed a significant relationship between diet, regular activity, proper medication use and counseling. Also, self-care score was studied by educational level, duration of illness, marital status, drug use and no significant relationship was found between them.
Conclusion:
Consultation with a pharmacist increases self-care in the areas of diet, proper medication use, blood glucose control at home, and increased activity of diabetic patients.
