Abstract

Introduction: Effect of pregnancy on women with cardiac problems and its impact on
maternal, neonatal and fetal outcomes is not completely known. Nature of information in this
groupe of patients is fragmented. Web based registry can contribute to the information
integration.
Aim: Aim of this research was to design a web-based registry system for cardiac problems in
pregnant women.
Material and methods: A list of data elements was extracted through reviewing the related
literature and clinical guidelines as well as data set related to ROPAC. After reviewing the
preliminary data set by multidisciplinary expert panel, they scored each of the data elements
in terms of their necessity and feasibility. They also finalized type of data, their default value,
validation controls as well as the reporting requirements. Data base was constructed in
MySQL.User interface was designed through using PHP, html, and CSS. In order to evaluate
the registry system, the researchers asked the users to assess the system's data entry and
reporting sections.
Results: overall 48 data elements in 6 main categories was determined for the data set
including demographic data, identifiers of collaborating centers, pre-pregnancy data,
hospitalization data in heart center, data related to pregnancy and delivery, data on medication
use in current pregnancy. Based on the defined data set, the web based system was designed.
Users scored system higher than 60% in terms of the system data entry andreporting
specifications.
Conclusion: This work is the first attempt for creating web-based registry system for cardiac
diseasess in pregnancy in Iran. The results obtained from this research can be usefule for
research aims as well as improvement of health care services for the related patients.
