Patients’ Trust on Nurses and its Relationship with Adherence to Therapeutic Regimen among Patients undergoing Hemodialysis in Emam Reza Education and Treatment Center, Tabriz, 2018

Abstract
Abstract: Aim of the study: Establishing trust between patient and nurse is one of the effective factors in improving the quality of nursing care. Regarding the importance of establishing trust between nurse and patients undergoing hemodialysis, this study aimed to investigate the patients' trust to nurses and its relationship with treatment adherence in hemodialysis patients in Imam Reza Hospital in 2018. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, a total of 180 patients undergoing haemodialysis in Emem Reza teaching hospital, Tabriz were selected using convenience sampling method. Data were collected by trust in nurses scale (TNS) and End stage renal disease adherence questionnaire (ESRD-AQ) from January to March 2019. The collected data were analysed by SPSS (ver.21) software using ANOVA, independent t-test and Pearson’s correlation coefficient. Results: According to the results, the mean score of patients’ trust in nurses was 23.82, showing a high level of trust towards nurses. The mean score of treatment adherence in hemodialysis patients was 1024.2 that showing a high level of adherence in theses patients. Pearson’s correlation coefficient showed a positive significant relationship between the age and patient’s trust toward nurses (r=0.17, p>0.05). However, the mean score of patients' trust in nurses was not significantly different in terms of sex, marital status, job and education level (p<0.05). The results showed a significant correlation between patients’ trust and patients’adherence to hemodialysis treatment (r=0.7, p<0.05). Also, there was a positive and significant relationship between adherence to hemodialysis treatment with potassium and urea level in blood and intradialytic weight gain (IDWG) (P <0.05). Conclusions:. According to the results, there was a significant relationship between patients' trust in nurses and adherence to treatment, meaning that increased trust in patient-nurse relationships could improve patient health behaviors and it It could be concluded that building trust between the patient and nurses has a significant impact on patients’ adherence to the health behaviors recommended by the nurse.
