The frequency, determinants and relationship of anxiety and depression disorders in adolescents in West of Tabriz in 2019
Abstract
The aim of this study is the frequency, determinants, and relationship of anxiety and depression disorders in adolescents in the west of Tabriz in 2019.
Materials and Methods: In this analytical cross-sectional study, we studied adolescents 13 to 18 years old referred to the 33 Laleh Health Center of the in Tabriz We collected data for 150 individuals from March to August 2019. We used the Beck's Depression Inventory 13-item questionnaire, Anxiety standard 41-item questionnaire of SCARED (Screen for Child Anxiety Related Disorders), and Demographic Questionnaire for data collection.
Results: The mean (standard deviation) duration of cyberspace and game use in adolescents in this study was 1.2 (±2/6) and 1.15 (±1/7) hours, respectively. Also, the mean (standard deviation) score of adolescent depression disorder in this study was 3.57 (±4.8) and the total anxiety disorder score was 18.37 (±9.9). There was no significant difference between the variables of depression disorder, anxiety disorder and comorbidity of depression and anxiety disorder with gender, birth rank, Parents' occupation, education level of parents, age, BMI and number of siblings in Adolescents (p>0.05 the number of hours of digital and computer gaming per day (p=0.016) and the duration of cyberspace (p=0.003) were significantly associated with severe depressive disorder (≥16); after adjusting for other variables, for each hour increasing in the gaming time and using internet in adolescent, the odd ratio of severe depressive disorder (≥16) increased by 42% and 31%, respectively. There was a statistically significant relationship between the degrees of depressive disorder and anxiety disorder; That way the odds ratio of developing an anxiety disorder in adolescents with depressive disorder, moderate depressive disorder, and severe depressive disorder were 4.62 (p>0.001), 3.96 (p=0.009) and 6.23 (p=0.040), respectively.
