Investigation of Factors Affecting Happiness among College Students in the school of management and medical informatics

Introduction: People who live happy can increase the power of their concentration and are
successful. When these people encounter problems and adverse conditions could solve problems
easily by spending a minimum of energy and without being confused. They also can be more
successful in social phenomena such as interpersonal, cognitive processes such as memory,
learning, problem solving and intellectual flexibility. As students and Young people are the
future of this country, happy and proper atmosphere in schools which are away from depression
and deviation must be provided. The present study aimed to identify the factors influencing
students' happiness and provide relative information for policymakers and planers in order to
insure the wellbeing of society in the future.
Methods: This is a descriptive – analytical study which has been done in the faculty of
management and medical informatics of Tabriz University of medical science in 2016. The study
participants were all students studying in this faculty. Data were collected by Oxford happiness
questionnaire with 28 questions.
Result: The average score of students' happiness were obtained 56.7 %. There was no significant
relationship between happiness scores and demographic variables. Factors which influence
happiness were obtained as following base on their priority: ability of doing tasks, life
satisfaction, mental alertness, impressing, purposefulness, interest in others and commitment.
Environmental and personal factors and also Authorities have effects on students` happiness.
Conclusion: If the correct and long-term planning and policy making are done by the authorities,
we can be hopeful that happiness could be increased in this great and important community. As
this happiness is more durable, healthy society can be met.
