چکیده
Background: It has been shown that elevation of cardiac biomarkers following PCI significantly linked with mortality and morbidity. Cardioprotection has become one of the important therapeutic concerns during PCI.This study was performed to evaluate the cardioprotective effect of Selenium in peri-procedural myocardial injury following elective PCI. Aim:Due to potential effect of Selenium on ischemic heart disease, this study was performed to evaluate the cardioprotective effect of Selenium in peri-proceduralmyocardial injury following elective PCI. Methods: A randomized clinical trial including a total number of 140 patients undergoing elective PCI was performed. Intervention group (n=50) received 1000mcg Selenium (one times in day) plus the standard treatment one day before PCI, while control group (n=50) only received the standard treatment). To assess myocardial damage during PCI, serum concentrations of CK-MB and troponin I were measured before, 8 and 24 hours after procedure. Result: The results of our study showed that the CK-MB rate decreased significantly after 24 hours in the intervention group compared to its level in the control group (P value = 0.0052). Also, the results of our study showed that the troponin I rate decreased significantly after 24 hours in the intervention group compared to its level in the control group (P value = 0 <0.0001). Finally, after 24 hours, the CRP level was 5.1±4.4 in the intervention group and 6.1±2.5 in the control group. Therefore, the results showed a low CRP level in the intervention group compared to the control group (P value = 0.008). Conclusion: This study did not support the potential cardioprotective effect of pre-treatment withCurcumin against pre-procedural myocardial injury in patients undergoing elective PCI. However, a non-significant trend toward the potential benefit of Curcumin was observed in the present study.
