Cultural Competence among Senior Nursing Students of Medical Universities in Two Macro- Regional Training Planning Health Hector- 1395
Abstract
Abstract: Background & Aim: Cultural competence refers to an ability to interact effectively with people of different cultures, which consequently results to effective healthcare. Due to lack of sufficient in second Microregion of higher education’s preparation for National Iranian Health in 1395, and availability of patients with different cultures in mentioned region, this study was conducted to determine the level of cultural competence among senior nursing students of this.
Materials & Methods: This descriptive study is based on Compinha bacoat model of cultural competence. 212 senior nursing students were assessed using a Compinha- bacoat cultural competence scale. These students included all senior nursing students of Tabriz, Maragheh, Urmia, Khoy, and Ardabil Universities of Medical Sciences, with respect to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data were analyzed using SPSS- 13 Software program.
Results: Cultural competence mean score was 73.69±12.1. According to the scale guideline used to determine the level of cultural competence among nursing students, components of cultural incompetence, awareness, competence, and proficiency are classified under “cultural awareness” level.
Conclusion: According to the results of this study, it is recommended that some educational lessons- related to cultural care- should be added to curriculums or in-service training courses in order to empower nursing students to develop their cultural competence.
